Very serious, since the engine can stall without warning or leak oil and catch fire, so get it in quickly and stop driving if you smell or see oil, see smoke, or the engine runs roughly.

What's wrong, in plain English

Cracks can form on the inside surface of an engine cylinder, the polished bore a piston slides up and down in. Those cracks can damage the engine. Two things can follow: the engine can quit running while you are driving, or oil can leak out. Leaking oil onto a hot engine can start a fire, and a stall in traffic can cause a crash. The fix is not a small one - dealers replace the whole engine at no cost.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Cayenne is part of recall AMB1.
2. Call your Porsche dealer, or Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243, and arrange the repair.
3. Have the engine replaced - the work is free of charge.

Summary: Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (Porsche) is recalling certain 2021 Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne GTS, and Cayenne GTS Coupe vehicles. Cracks may develop on the surface of the engine cylinder bore.
Safety risk: Cracks may cause engine damage and a stall or an oil leak, increasing the risk of a crash or fire.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the engine, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 9, 2021. Owners may contact Porsche customer service at 1-800-767-7243. Porsche's number for this recall is AMB1.
