Porsche Cayenne missing seat part may disable passenger airbag

NHTSA campaign 21V318000 · Reported 2021-05-05 · Porsche Cars North America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious for anyone riding in the front passenger seat during a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so the car can be driven while you arrange the free repair.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front passenger seat in these Cayennes was built without a heating element in the seat back. That missing part can throw off the system that senses whether someone is sitting in the passenger seat and how big they are. Because the car may misjudge the passenger, the front passenger airbag may not go off in a crash. The seat otherwise looks and works normally, so there is no sign anything is missing.
