Nissan Rogue Sport liftgate hinges can separate in crash
medium How serious is it? About this label
The problem only shows up if you are hit from behind, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but it does mean a greater chance of injury in a rear-end crash until the hinges are replaced.
What's wrong, in plain English
On certain 2021 Rogue Sport wagons, the hinges that hold the rear liftgate — the big door at the back — can break away from the body in a rear-end crash. Because of that, the vehicle does not meet the federal safety rule for doors staying shut in a crash. If the hinges let go, the liftgate no longer protects people inside the way it should. A dealer will replace both hinges.
What you should do
2. Call your Nissan dealer or Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and give them recall number R21A7.
3. Have both liftgate hinges replaced at no cost to you — owner letters were mailed September 7, 2021.
