Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator got wrong rear suspension parts

NHTSA campaign 21V870000 · Reported 2021-11-10 · Ford Motor Company

high How serious is it? About this label

Changed handling and braking raise your crash risk, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so book the inspection soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

Because parts were labeled wrong at the factory, some 2021 Explorer and Aviator vehicles may have been built with the wrong pieces in the rear suspension — the setup that holds up the back of the vehicle and smooths out the road. With the wrong parts, the vehicle may not handle the way it should, may sit at the wrong height, and may not brake the way it is meant to. Dealers will inspect the rear suspension and swap in the correct parts if yours are wrong.
