Tesla Model Y suspension parts can break apart

NHTSA campaign 21V912000 · Reported 2021-11-21 · Tesla, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Suspension links that separate can reduce vehicle stability and control, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Tesla has found that a part called the suspension knuckle — a metal piece that connects each wheel to the car — can crack on some Model Y vehicles, front or rear. If it breaks, the arms holding the wheel in place can come apart. That can make the car hard to steer or keep straight, especially at speed. Tesla will look at all four knuckles and put in new ones wherever they are needed, at no cost to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Model Y is included.
2. Call Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 (recall SB-21-31-004) or book Tesla Service to schedule the inspection.
3. Have the knuckles inspected and replaced as needed — the work is free, and tell Tesla right away if you notice clunking, wandering, or odd handling.
