Losing your lights is a real crash hazard, but Hyundai reports all affected vehicles were already fixed, so most owners have nothing left to do.

What's wrong, in plain English

A control unit that manages much of the car's electrical system was loaded with software that does not match these vehicles. Because of that mismatch, the headlights, the taillights, or both can stop working. Without headlights you cannot see the road well at night, and without taillights drivers behind you may not see your car. Hyundai says every affected vehicle has already been repaired, so no notification letters were mailed to owners.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether recall 21V938000 still shows as open for your Tucson.
2. If it shows open, or if your lights have acted up, call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall number 214) or your dealer.
3. The dealer will update the control unit software, free of charge.

Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2022 Tucson vehicles. The software installed in the Integrated Central Control Unit (ICU) may be incompatible with the vehicle, which could result in inoperative headlights and/or taillights.
Safety risk: Inoperative headlights or taillights can decrease visibility for both the driver and surrounding traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers updated the ICU software, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been repaired and therefore no owner notification letters will be mailed. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 214.
