Very serious, since the windshield could detach in a crash; the notice does not order you to stop driving, but the car cannot be repaired and must be exchanged or bought back.

What's wrong, in plain English

The wrong clear paint coating was used on part of the body where the windshield is glued in. Because of that, the glue may not hold the windshield firmly to the car. In a crash, the windshield could come loose and fall away, which can hurt the people inside. This one cannot be fixed with a normal repair — Subaru is offering to trade your car for another one or buy it back.

Summary: Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2022 Impreza and Outback vehicles. The incorrect paint clearcoat may have been applied, which can cause the windshield to be insufficiently bonded to the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 212, "Windshield Mounting."
Safety risk: An insufficiently bonded windshield can detach during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Subaru will offer owners a vehicle exchange or repurchase, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 21, 2022. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRH-22.
