Serious: the notice does not order owners to park the car, but a driveshaft coming apart while driving can cause a crash, so have this done as soon as a dealer can take you.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2023 Subaru Outback, Legacy, Ascent and Impreza vehicles, the bolts holding the middle support of the driveshaft can work loose. The driveshaft is the spinning shaft under the car that sends engine power toward the wheels. If those bolts loosen, the front end of the shaft can come apart from the car while you are driving. A driveshaft that separates underneath a moving vehicle increases the risk of a crash.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Subaru is on the list.
2. Call your Subaru dealer, or Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614, and reference recall WRN-23.
3. Have the dealer clean the mounting surfaces and install new center support bolts, free of charge.

Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2023 Outback, Legacy, Ascent, and Impreza vehicles. The center support bolts for the driveshaft may loosen, resulting in the disconnection of the front end of the driveshaft.
Safety risk
Separation of the front end of the driveshaft increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will clean the bolt mounting surfaces of the center support brace and install new bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 20, 2023. Owners may contact Subaru's customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRN-23.
