Serious in a crash, because the passenger airbag may simply not fire, but the notice does not tell you to stop driving — get it fixed and be aware of the risk for front-seat passengers until then.

What's wrong, in plain English

Your car has sensors in the front passenger seat that tell the airbag system whether someone is sitting there. A small electrical part inside those sensors can crack and short out. If that happens, the front passenger airbag may not go off in a crash, leaving whoever is riding in that seat without the protection the airbag is supposed to provide. Subaru dealers will replace the sensors in the front passenger seat at no charge to you.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Outback or Legacy is included.
2. Call your Subaru dealer or Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 and mention recall WRA-24.
3. Have the front passenger seat occupant detection sensors replaced free of charge; owner notices were mailed February 3, 2025.

Summary
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Outback and Legacy vehicles. A capacitor in the sensors for the Occupant Detection System (ODS) may crack and short circuit, which can prevent the front passenger air bag from deploying in a crash.
Safety risk
An air bag that does not deploy during a crash can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the ODS sensors on the front passenger seat, free of charge. Owner notifications were mailed February 3, 2025. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WRA-24.
