Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz roof trim can fly off

NHTSA campaign 23V038000 · Reported 2023-01-31 · Hyundai Motor America

medium How serious is it? About this label

The danger is mainly to other drivers rather than to you, and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so you can keep using the vehicle while you wait for the appointment.

What's wrong, in plain English

The long trim strips that run along the edges of the roof may not be attached securely. Over time one can work loose and fly off while you are driving. A piece of trim lying in the road is dangerous for the cars behind you and can cause a crash. A dealer will check your roof trim and either fasten it down properly or replace it, and you pay nothing.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your vehicle is covered.
2. Call your Hyundai dealer for an appointment, or contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 and mention recall 241.
3. Have the roof moldings inspected and secured or replaced — the work is free.
