Ford Super Duty steering column bolts may be missing

NHTSA campaign 23V344000 · Reported 2023-05-12 · Ford Motor Company

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is one of the most serious kinds of defect, because losing steering happens suddenly and without warning, so get the truck inspected immediately and do not drive it if the steering feels loose or vague.

What's wrong, in plain English

Bolts that hold the top of the steering column to the rest of the steering system may be missing or may not have been tightened enough at the factory. If those bolts are loose or absent, the steering column can come apart from what it connects to. If that happens while you are driving, the steering wheel stops turning the front wheels and you lose control with no warning. Dealers check the bolts, tighten them, and add any that are missing.

2. Call your Ford dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and ask for the inspection as soon as possible.
3. Have the steering column bolts tightened or installed - the repair is free.
