Jeep Grand Cherokee rear coil springs can fall off

NHTSA campaign 23V413000 · Reported 2023-06-08 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is serious, because a spring that comes off on the road can cause a crash with no warning; the notice does not order owners to park the vehicle, but get it in quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The rear coil springs are the large metal springs that hold up the back of the vehicle. On these Grand Cherokees they may have been installed incorrectly, and a spring can come loose and detach while you are driving. A dealer inspects the rear spring assemblies and repairs them at no cost. Important: this recall has been replaced by a newer one, NHTSA number 26V051, and every affected vehicle needs the new repair performed.

What you should do

3. Have the free repair done even if your vehicle was already serviced under the older recall.
