Jeep control arms and rear coil springs: why the repeat recalls?
Two defects dominate. Front lower control arms turn up three times: incorrectly welded arms on the 2018 Compass, a misplaced left control arm bracket and weld on the 2020 Wrangler, and arms that can fracture while driving on 2021 Cherokee Latitude and Limited models. The other is the Grand Cherokee rear coil spring, recalled in 2023 and twice again in 2026 for the same reason: springs installed incorrectly on 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L, 2022-2023 Grand Cherokee and 4xe models that can detach while you drive. A separate 2024 recall covers an upper control arm ball joint and steering knuckle that can separate and let a front wheel fold outward on 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L and 2022-2023 Grand Cherokee models.
Warning signs to watch for
- The notices describe these failures as sudden; several state there is no warning before control is lost.
- Steering that goes vague or unresponsive if a front lower control arm fractures or separates from the axle.
- A front wheel visibly leaning or folding outward on the Grand Cherokee ball joint recall.
- A rear coil spring out of position, or missing, on Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models.
Is it safe to keep driving?
One stands out: for the 2021 Cherokee Latitude and Limited front control arm recall, the guidance is not to drive the vehicle until it has been inspected and repaired. Nothing in this group requires parking outside. The other six allow continued driving, but the Compass and Wrangler control arm defects, the Grand Cherokee ball joint and all three rear coil spring recalls describe failures that arrive without warning, so treat them as urgent, avoid long highway trips, and call your dealer rather than waiting for a follow-up letter.

Common questions
My Grand Cherokee already had the spring recall done — why another one?
Chrysler has issued three rear coil spring recalls covering overlapping 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L models. The newest remedy replaces the rear coil spring lower isolators, so an earlier repair does not close out the later campaign. Check your VIN.
I got an interim letter but no repair date — what should I do?
The two most recent Grand Cherokee spring recalls started with interim letters that explain the risk before parts are ready; a second letter follows when the repair can be scheduled. Because a spring can detach without warning, call your dealer now.
