Ford F-450 and F-550 power windows may not reverse

NHTSA campaign 23V507000 · Reported 2023-07-21 · Ford Motor Company

medium How serious is it? About this label

The notice describes an injury risk from a window closing on someone rather than a crash risk, and Ford does not tell owners to stop driving, but be careful with children and pets near the front windows until the software is updated.

What's wrong, in plain English

The power windows in the driver and front passenger doors have a safety feature that reverses the glass if something is in the way. On these trucks, if the door's electronics briefly lose power and restart while a window is closing, that feature may not notice an object near the top of the opening. The window could keep closing on a hand, arm, or anything else in its path instead of dropping back down.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023 Super Duty F250, F350, F450, and F550 vehicles. If the driver and front passenger door module experiences a low power condition and resets while the window is moving, the anti-pinch function may not detect an obstacle near the top edge and may not automatically reverse direction.
Safety risk
A window that does not automatically reverse when an obstruction is encountered increases the risk of injury.
Remedy
Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 28, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23S37.
