Jeep Wagoneer pillar trim can block side curtain airbag

NHTSA campaign 23V545000 · Reported 2023-08-03 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

A compromised deployment of the SABIC can reduce occupant protection in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

In these Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models, the interior trim on the upper part of the post between the front and rear doors may not be pushed fully into place. The side curtain airbag — the long airbag that drops down over the side windows in a crash — comes out from behind that trim. Loose trim can get in its way. If the airbag cannot open the way it should, people inside are less protected. Dealers reseat or replace the trim.
