Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 rear turn signals fail

NHTSA campaign 23V609000 · Reported 2023-08-31 · Subaru of America, Inc.

medium How serious is it? About this label

Inoperative rear turn signals may not notify other drivers of a turning vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The turn signals at the back of these cars can stop working from time to time. The problem comes and goes, so the lights may work one moment and not the next. Drivers behind you would get no warning that you are about to turn or change lanes, which can lead to a crash. The fix is to replace both rear light assemblies — the complete taillight units — and the dealer does this free of charge.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to check whether your car is included.
2. Subaru owners call 1-844-373-6614 (recall WRM-23); GR86 owners call Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
3. Book the free replacement of both rear light assemblies at your dealer.
