Hyundai Palisade engine part can break and cause fire

NHTSA campaign 24V106000 · Reported 2024-02-13 · Hyundai Motor America

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is a severe defect: it can strip your power in traffic without warning and can lead to an engine fire, so treat it as urgent and get it repaired right away rather than putting it off.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2024 Hyundai Palisades, small springs inside the engine that control the valves can break while you are driving. When one snaps, the engine can lose power with no warning at all. In the worst case, a broken piece can punch a hole clear through the side of the engine block, letting hot oil escape onto hot engine parts — and that can start a fire. Hyundai dealers replace the engine's internal assembly to fix it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Palisade is affected.
2. Contact your Hyundai dealer or Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 255) immediately to schedule service.
3. The engine sub-assembly replacement is free; if you smell burning, see smoke, or lose power, pull over safely and stop the engine.
