Jeep Grand Cherokee front wheel can fall outward

NHTSA campaign 24V132000 · Reported 2024-02-22 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

critical How serious is it? About this label

A wheel coming loose at speed is about as dangerous as a car problem gets and can cause a crash with almost no warning; Chrysler has not ordered owners to park these, but treat this as urgent.

What's wrong, in plain English

A ball joint sits at the top of the front suspension and holds the wheel to the vehicle while letting it turn and move up and down. On these Grand Cherokees, that joint can pull apart from the steering knuckle. If it does, the wheel can fall outward and you can lose control of the SUV. Dealers will replace the pinch bolts that clamp the upper control arm in place, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Grand Cherokee or Grand Cherokee L is included. 2. Call your Jeep dealer or FCA at 1-800-853-1403 (recall 10B) and ask for the earliest available appointment. 3. The new pinch bolts are installed free.
