Jeep Grand Cherokee missing bumper foam affects airbag deployment

NHTSA campaign 24V346000 · Reported 2024-05-16 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because the front airbags may not do their job in a crash; there is no instruction to stop driving, but schedule the inspection soon.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokees left the factory missing a piece of energy-absorbing foam inside the front bumper. Chrysler says that missing foam can keep the front airbags from going off the way they are supposed to in a crash, so the vehicle does not meet the federal rule for crash protection. If the airbags do not work as designed, people in the front seats face a greater chance of injury. A dealer will inspect the bumper and add the foam if needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your Grand Cherokee is covered (Chrysler's recall number is 41B). 2. Contact your Jeep dealer or FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403 to arrange the bumper inspection. 3. The inspection and any foam installation are free of charge.
