Weaker body structure means less protection for passengers in a crash, which is serious, but there is no warning sign in normal driving and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving while they wait for the inspection.
What's wrong, in plain English
On some 2025 X1 models, the reinforcement plates inside the body posts between the front and rear doors may not be as strong as they should be. Those posts, called B-pillars, are a key part of the structure around the passenger area. If the plates are weak, that part of the body may not hold up in a crash the way it is designed to, leaving people inside less protected. Dealers will check both sides and replace the pillar if needed.

- BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2025 X1 xDrive28i and X1 M35i vehicles. The left and right-side B-Pillar reinforcement plates may have been manufactured with insufficient structural strength.
- Safety risk
- A B-Pillar structure with reduced strength may not adequately protect passengers in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy
- Dealers will inspect the left-side and right-side B-Pillar and, if affected, replace the B-Pillar, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 7, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
