Jeep Grand Cherokee speedometer may show wrong speed

NHTSA campaign 24V872000 · Reported 2024-11-19 · Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)

medium How serious is it? About this label

Not knowing your true speed raises the chance of a crash, but the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, so the vehicle can be driven while you arrange the free update.

What's wrong, in plain English

The screen behind the steering wheel runs on software, and an error in that software can make the speedometer show a speed that isn't your actual one. You could be traveling faster or slower than the number you see. Nothing is physically broken and the rest of the vehicle works normally, but the display fails the federal rule requiring accurate speed readings. A dealer checks the cluster and loads corrected software.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included.
2. Call your Jeep dealer or FCA customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall B8B) to schedule the software update.
3. Have the cluster inspected and reprogrammed — the repair is free.
