Honda CRF1100 Africa Twin can stall with Wheelie Control

NHTSA campaign 24V882000 · Reported 2024-11-21 · Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)

high How serious is it? About this label

A sudden stall or power loss on a motorcycle can lead to a crash or injury; Honda has not told riders to stop riding, but the problem is tied to Wheelie Control, so schedule the update promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

These Africa Twin motorcycles have a software mistake in the computer that controls the fuel injection. When the Wheelie Control feature is switched on, that error can make the engine stall or suddenly lose power. Losing power without warning on a motorcycle can make it hard to stay in control or keep up with traffic. The repair is a software update for the fuel injection computer, which your Honda dealer loads free of charge.

What you should do

1. Look up your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your bike is covered. 2. Contact your Honda motorcycle dealer or Honda at 1-866-784-1870 (recall KR1) to book the reprogramming. 3. The software update costs you nothing.
