What's wrong, in plain English

Electric and hybrid vehicles run so quietly that they play an artificial sound outside the car to warn people nearby. A software problem makes these vehicles play an incorrect warning sound while backing up. Someone walking behind the vehicle may not realize it is reversing toward them. The vehicles do not meet the federal rule for minimum sound. Dealers will update the software at no charge — a short visit with no parts needed.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included in campaign 25V366000 (MBUSA recall 2025070005).
2. Contact your Mercedes-Benz dealer or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 to book the update.
3. Have the sound system software updated — it is free.
4. Until then, back up slowly and watch for people behind you.

Summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2022-2025 S-Class, EQE SUV, EQE, EQS SUV and EQS vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. Software in the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) may cause an incorrect external pedestrian warning sound while reversing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid Electric Vehicles."

Remedy
Dealers will update the AVAS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 1, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2025070005.
