A fire after a crash is a serious hazard, but the notice does not tell owners to park the vehicle or keep it outside, so you can keep driving while you schedule the free inspection.

What's wrong, in plain English

On some Santa Fe SUVs, the protective cover over the positive battery terminal on the starter motor may not have been installed correctly at the factory. That cover keeps the live terminal from touching other metal parts. If the cover is not on properly and the vehicle is in a crash, the wiring can short out, and a short can start a fire. A dealer will inspect the cover and reinstall it if needed, free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your Santa Fe is included in recall 25V659000.
2. Call your Hyundai dealer, or Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 (recall 285), to make an appointment.
3. Have the dealer inspect and reinstall the starter terminal cover — the repair is free.

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2024-2025 Santa Fe vehicles. The B+ positive terminal cover on the starter motor assembly may be improperly installed, which can cause an electrical short during a crash.
Safety risk
An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and reinstall the starter motor terminal cover, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed beginning October 22, 2025. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 285. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 4, 2025.
