This is serious: the rear wheel could lock while you are riding, which can cause a crash, and leaking oil on hot parts can start a fire, so ride with caution and be alert for oil leaks or engine noise until the repair is available.

What's wrong, in plain English

Some 2025 Honda CB1000SP motorcycles were built with pistons and piston rings that were not made correctly. Over time this can wear out an internal engine bearing. If that bearing fails, the engine can lock up and stop the rear wheel from turning, or engine oil can leak out onto the rear tire. Oil can also drip onto the hot exhaust. Honda has told owners about the danger, but the actual fix is not ready yet.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — Honda's numbers are searchable starting January 7, 2026 — to confirm your motorcycle is included.
2. Contact American Honda customer service at 1-866-784-1870 and mention recall number KT6 if you have questions or notice an oil leak.
3. Watch for a second letter, expected around August 2026, then take the bike to a Honda dealer for a free engine inspection and repair.

Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2025 CB1000SP motorcycles. The pistons and piston rings may have been improperly manufactured, which can lead to rod bearing failure, possibly resulting in rear wheel lock up or oil leaking onto the rear tire.
Safety risk
Rear wheel lockup increases the risk of a crash or injury. Engine oil that leaks onto hot exhaust components increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect and repair the engine assembly as necessary, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed February 9, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated in August 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-866-784-1870. Honda's number for this recall is KT6. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 7, 2026.
