Not an immediate danger while driving forward and the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but back up slowly and look over your shoulder and in your mirrors until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

When you shift into reverse, the picture from the backup camera can show up flipped or upside down on the center screen. A reversed image makes it hard to tell what is actually behind you and which way to steer, so you could back into a person or an object. It is a software problem, and the dealer will load the correct software into the screen system at no cost.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is covered (VINs have been searchable since March 5, 2026).
2. Contact your Ford or Lincoln dealer, or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and mention recall 26C11.
3. Have the dealer update the display module software; the repair is free.

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Escape, Lincoln Corsair, 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator, and Explorer vehicles. The image on the center display may flip or invert, resulting in an incorrectly displayed rearview image when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Safety risk
An incorrectly displayed rearview image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 23, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26C11. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on March 5, 2026.
