This is serious because a rear suspension part can fail while you are driving; Honda has not told owners to park the vehicle, but have the subframe inspected as soon as your dealer can see it.

What's wrong, in plain English

These vehicles were sold in states that salt the roads in winter. The rear subframe, the metal frame that holds the rear suspension to the body, can rust badly where the suspension bolts onto it. If it rusts through, a rear suspension part such as a control arm can come loose. The back of the vehicle can then wander or slide and you could lose control. Honda's full repair is not ready yet and is expected in fall 2026.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (VINs for this recall became searchable June 10, 2026).
2. Call your Honda or Acura dealer, or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (recall numbers AOU and AOT), and ask for the rear subframe inspection.
3. Watch your mail for the letter announcing the final repair; inspection, the reinforcement kit, and any subframe work are free.

Summary
American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles that were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can result in rear suspension component failure.
Safety risk
Failure of rear suspension components, such as the rear control arm, can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit and, as necessary, repair or replace the rear subframe components, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed July 27, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in the fall of 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are AOU and AOT. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 10, 2026.
