Subaru Ascent and Forester have wrong weight-rating labels
low How serious is it? About this label
An incorrect GAWR label may lead to an overloaded vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
The sticker on the door frame that lists how much weight each axle can safely carry shows the wrong numbers on these Subarus. If you load the car based on that sticker, you could end up putting more weight on it than it is built to handle. Overloading a vehicle makes it harder to control and harder to stop. Subaru is mailing owners a corrected sticker, and a dealer will put it on for free if you prefer.
What you should do
2. Watch your mail for the new certification label from Subaru, or call Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614 with questions (recall WRH-26).
3. If you would rather not apply the sticker yourself, ask a Subaru dealer to install it — there is no charge either way.
