Polestar 2 and 3 electrical recalls: sudden power loss risk
These three Polestar recalls all end in a sudden loss of something you rely on while moving, and the Polestar 3 accounts for two of them. On the 2025 Polestar 3, 12-volt system fluctuations may have damaged the High to Low Voltage Converter Module, which can cut drive power, and water reaching the connectors between the engine bay and front bumper harnesses can knock out power steering assist. The third covers 2021-2022 Polestar 2 vehicles, where the Battery Energy Control Module microprocessor may reset and disconnect the high-voltage system — again, a sudden loss of drive power. Two of the three are hardware replacements; only the Polestar 2 issue is fixed with software.
Warning signs to watch for
- Drive power cuts out suddenly while you are moving
- The high-voltage system disconnects, leaving the car unable to propel itself
- Steering becomes heavy or loses assist on an affected Polestar 3
- The notices describe these losses as happening without warning, so there may be no dashboard alert first
Is it safe to keep driving?
None of these three notices tells owners to stop driving or park outside. That said, the hazards are real ones: on the Polestar 3, the converter module can cut drive power, and the water-damaged harness can take away steering assist — both while you are moving. The Polestar 2 high-voltage disconnect is the same kind of risk. Polestar has not restricted driving, so you can keep using the car, but book the repair quickly and avoid situations where a sudden power loss would be hardest to handle.
What the free repair involves
Two of the three need parts. On the Polestar 3, dealers replace the High to Low Voltage Converter Module, or replace the bumper harness plus the inline front bumper and engine bay connector where water intrusion is the cause. For the 2021-2022 Polestar 2, the Battery Energy Control Module software is updated by a dealer or over the air. All of it is free of charge.

Does the Polestar 2 power loss recall need a dealer visit?
