Polestar 3 water-damaged wiring can kill steering assist

NHTSA campaign 25V453000 · Reported 2025-07-07 · Polestar Automotive USA, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious, because losing power steering assist while driving can lead to a crash, so get it repaired promptly, though the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Water can get into the electrical connectors that join the wiring in the engine bay to the wiring in the front bumper. Over time that water damages the connectors and the wiring harness. Damaged wiring can cause a range of electrical problems in the car, including loss of power steering assist, which makes the steering suddenly much heavier and harder to turn. Polestar will replace the bumper harness and the connector between the bumper and engine bay wiring.
