Losing drive power in traffic can lead to a crash, so this is serious; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but get the software update right away.

What's wrong, in plain English

A small computer that watches over the big battery can restart on its own. When it does, it cuts the connection to the battery pack, and the car stops sending power to the wheels. That can happen while you are driving, leaving you without the ability to speed up or keep moving in traffic. The fix is new software, which a dealer can load or the car can download by itself over the air.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is covered by recall 21V110000 (Polestar R10079).
2. Accept the over-the-air software update if your car offers one, or contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504 to arrange a dealer visit.
3. Confirm the update is installed — there is no charge for it.

Summary
Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. (Polestar) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Polestar 2 vehicles. The Battery Energy Control Module (BECM) microprocessor may reset and cause the high voltage system to disconnect.
Safety risk
A disconnected high voltage system can cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Polestar will notify owners, and the software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 23, 2021. Owners may contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504. Polestar's number for this recall is R10079. (over-the-air software update)
