Kia Niro wiring damage may affect airbags, seat belts high

Reported 2025-01-17 · Campaign 25V024000 · Model years: 2023, 2024, 2025

In these Niro hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric models, the wiring that runs along the floor under the front passenger seat can get damaged. Damaged wiring can stop the front airbags and the seat belts from working the way they should in a crash. It can also cause a side curtain airbag to go off on its own when there is no crash at all.

Kia EV9 and Niro EV may lose drive power critical

Reported 2024-04-16 · Campaign 24V271000 · Model years: 2023

Bolts inside the gear drive unit, the part that sends power from the electric motor to the wheels, may not have been tightened enough. If they loosen, the car can suddenly lose drive power while you are moving, or the unit can lock up, which would stop the wheels from turning freely. Either one could happen with no warning and lead to a crash. Dealers will replace the whole gear drive unit at no charge.

Kia EV6 and Niro EV drive shaft may break high

Reported 2024-01-31 · Campaign 24V057000 · Model years: 2023, 2024

One of the drive shafts — the metal shaft that sends power from the motor to a wheel — may not have been heat-treated correctly when it was made. That leaves it weaker than it should be, and it can snap when the car is working hard, such as pulling away quickly or climbing a hill. If it breaks, the car suddenly stops pulling and you cannot accelerate, even though nothing else has failed.
