An engine block heater is the plug-in warmer some vehicles have to help the engine start in very cold weather. On these Fords and Lincolns the heater can crack and leak coolant, and the leak can cause an electrical short when the heater is plugged in. That short can start a fire. Ford is telling owners not to plug in the block heater at all until the vehicle is fixed. Dealers will replace it, or seal it off and remove the cord, free.
When you put the vehicle in reverse, the backup camera may show a picture that is upside down, distorted, or completely blank. That leaves you with less of a view behind you, so it is easier to miss a person or an object while backing up. Dealers will inspect the camera and replace it if needed at no cost. Ford is mailing owner letters in phases, starting January 2026 with more going out in June 2026.
A small sensor that watches your battery can short out and get very hot. When that happens, it can start a fire in the engine compartment — while you are driving or while the vehicle is parked and switched off. Ford is telling owners to park outside and away from buildings until the repair is done. A dealer will add a fuse to that sensor's power wiring. Owner letters were mailed August 8, 2023.

Some 2018 Escape and MKC vehicles left the factory with the wrong front brake hoses. Because they are not the right ones, they can rub against nearby parts until they wear through and start leaking brake fluid. Losing brake fluid means your brakes get weaker and the vehicle takes longer to stop than you expect. Dealers will look at the hoses and put in correct ones wherever the wrong parts were used.
