What's wrong, in plain English

A small sensor that watches your battery can short out and get very hot. When that happens, it can start a fire in the engine compartment — while you are driving or while the vehicle is parked and switched off. Ford is telling owners to park outside and away from buildings until the repair is done. A dealer will add a fuse to that sensor's power wiring. Owner letters were mailed August 8, 2023.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls, and park outside away from your house or garage in the meantime.
2. Contact your Lincoln dealer or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and mention recall 23S28.
3. The dealer installs an in-line fuse on the battery sensor circuit free of charge.

Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Lincoln MKC vehicles. The battery monitor sensor may short-circuit and overheat, causing a fire in the engine compartment while parked or driving.
