Nissan Versa Note airbag piece may fly into cabin

NHTSA campaign 17V837000 · Reported 2017-12-20 · Nissan North America, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

If the component detaches during deployment, it may enter the passenger compartment and be a projectile within the vehicle cabin, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

In a side crash, the curtain airbag above the side windows fills using a small gas canister. On these cars, a piece of that canister can break off as the bag inflates and fly into the cabin, where it could strike someone. Nothing is wrong with the car day to day; the danger only appears if the airbag goes off. Nissan dealers will replace the side curtain airbags at no cost to you.
