BMW M4 knee airbags may be folded incorrectly
high How serious is it? About this label
An improperly folded and assembled air bag may not deploy as intended, increasing risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.
What's wrong, in plain English
These BMWs have knee airbags — cushions low in the dash that protect the driver's and front passenger's legs in a crash. On the recalled cars, those airbags may have been folded and put together incorrectly at the factory. If that happened, the airbag may not open the way it should during a crash, so it may not protect you properly and you could be injured. A dealer will replace both knee airbag units free of charge.
What you should do
2. Contact your BMW dealer to schedule the airbag replacement, or call BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
3. Have both knee airbag modules replaced — the repair is free.
