If the headrest folds down in a crash, there would be an increased risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

Only two of these cars are affected by this recall. The headrest in the middle of the back seat was not welded together properly when it was built. Because of that bad weld, it can fold forward if the car is hit from behind. A headrest is meant to stay upright and support a passenger's head and neck in a rear-end crash, so someone riding in the middle of the back seat could be hurt worse. Dealers will replace it.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls — only two cars are involved in recall 19V600000, so this is the only way to know if yours is one of them.
2. If it is, call BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or your BMW dealer to have the rear center headrest replaced free of charge.
3. Until it is replaced, avoid seating a passenger in the middle of the rear seat.
