This is serious because your seat belt may not hold you in a crash; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but have it checked as soon as possible.

What's wrong, in plain English

On these BMW 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3 cars, the bolt that holds a front seat belt to the body of the car was not tightened enough at the factory. A loose bolt means the seat belt may not hold you in place properly if you are in a crash. Nothing looks or feels wrong from the driver's seat, so you cannot spot this yourself, and an occupant could be injured more seriously in a collision.

What you should do

2. Contact your BMW dealer, or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, to schedule an inspection.
3. The dealer will inspect the front seat belt buckle attachment and replace it if needed, free of charge.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2021 330i, 330i xDrive, M340i, M3, and 330e xDrive vehicles. The bolt securing the seat belt assembly to the frame was not tightened to specification.
Safety risk
An improperly installed seat belt assembly may not restrain an occupant as expected, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front seat belt buckle assembly connection and, if necessary, replace it, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 25, 2021. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
