BMW Accessory Brake Reservoir Covers Lack Fluid Instructions
low How serious is it? About this label
Low risk while the brakes are serviced properly — the motorcycle is safe to ride, but do not rely on this cover for fluid instructions until it is replaced.
What's wrong, in plain English
This recall covers accessory brake fluid reservoir covers sold for certain BMW R 1250 and RnineT motorcycles, listed by part number. The cover does not clearly state which brake fluid to use or how to fill the reservoir, so it fails the federal rule for motorcycle brakes. Anyone topping up the fluid could use the wrong kind or do it incorrectly, which could weaken braking. BMW dealers will replace the cap free of charge.
What you should do
2. Contact a BMW dealer or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to confirm your part is affected.
