A loose rear drive would reduce stability and control and could cause a crash, so the bike should not be ridden until a dealer replaces the pin.

What's wrong, in plain English

On certain 2020 BMW R1250GS and R1250RT motorcycles, the pivot pin that holds the final drive to the swing arm may be damaged. Those are the parts that connect the rear wheel to the rest of the bike. If the pin is damaged, that connection can work loose. A loose rear end makes the motorcycle less stable and harder to control. Dealers will install a new pivot pin at no charge. BMW says these bikes were not yet with owners.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your motorcycle falls under recall 20V165000.
2. Contact your BMW motorcycle dealer, or BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, before riding.
3. Have the pivot pin replaced — the repair is free.

Safety risk

Remedy
Dealers will replace the pivot pin, free of charge. The motorcycles are not with owners at this time. The recall began April 28, 2020. Please contact BMW customer service number 1-800-525-7417.
