BMW brake recalls: leaking hoses, corroded calipers, and integrated brake failures
Eleven recalls split between two-wheelers and SUVs. On bikes and scooters the calipers are the weak point: piston corrosion that makes brakes stick or drag on G 310 R and GS and the C 400 X, front calipers that leak fluid while parked on R 1250 GS, GS Adventure, RT and S 1000 models, and a C600/C650 front brake hose that cracks from repeated full left lock. Two more cover brake fluid reservoir caps and accessory covers that do not state the correct fluid. On cars the integrated brake system appears twice, on 2019-2021 X5, X6, X7, 7 and 8 Series and again on 2023-2025 X1, X5, X6, X7, XM, i5, i7, MINI and Rolls-Royce Spectre; the 2025 X3 has both leaking rear hoses and damaged front discs.
Warning signs to watch for
- Longer stopping distances or weaker braking, especially from the rear on X3 and X4 models
- Brake fluid level dropping, or fluid visible under a parked motorcycle
- A hard brake pedal, or brake, ABS and stability control warning lights
- Brakes that stick, drag or feel like they are binding on G 310 or C 400 X models
- A brake fluid reservoir cap or cover that does not state the required fluid type
Is it safe to keep driving?
No recall here carries a stop-driving or park-outside order. The urgent ones are the brakes you actually rely on: the C650 scooter hose, the corroded G 310 and C 400 X calipers, the leaking R 1250 and S 1000 front calipers, the 2025 X3 hoses and discs, and both integrated brake system recalls — drive or ride, but book quickly and get off the road if the pedal goes hard or ABS and stability warnings appear. The reservoir cap recalls are low risk; just don't top up fluid from those labels.
What the free repair involves
Every repair is free. Dealers bleed the rear brake circuit on 2018-2019 X3 and X4 models; replace brake hoses, adding a protective sleeve over the fitting on scooters; replace front and rear calipers, or fit improved front calipers on R 1250 and S 1000 bikes; replace front discs and pads or rear hoses on the X3; inspect and replace the integrated brake system; and swap the reservoir cap.

Common questions
My brakes feel normal. Is my X3 still affected?
Possibly. The 2018-2019 rear caliper piston coating and the 2025 rear hose and front disc recalls can exist before you feel anything. Check your VIN — dealers bleed the circuit or replace hoses, discs and pads as the specific recall requires, free of charge.
What is the integrated brake system that keeps getting recalled?
It is the unit handling braking together with electronic assistance. When it malfunctions, the notices describe a loss of braking function along with anti-lock braking and stability control support, which matters most in a hard stop. Dealers inspect and replace the unit as needed.
Does the brake fluid cap recall actually matter?
It is the least urgent group here. The cap or accessory cover does not clearly state the required brake fluid type, so the risk comes from someone servicing the brakes with the wrong fluid. Dealers replace the cap free of charge.
