BMW motorcycle front suspension strut may fail while riding

NHTSA campaign 24V165000 · Reported 2024-02-29 · BMW of North America, LLC

critical How serious is it? About this label

This is serious for a rider: the strut can fail without warning and a loss of stability can cause a crash, so even though BMW has not told owners to stop riding, get the inspection before your next long ride.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front suspension strut — the part that absorbs bumps and keeps the front end steady — may have been built with a faulty valve inside. That valve can work its way loose, and the strut can then fail. On a motorcycle, losing the front suspension means losing stability, and the bike can become very hard to control. Dealers will check when your struts were made and replace them at no charge if affected.
