Hyundai Elantra, Sonata, Santa Fe: windshield may not be bonded

NHTSA campaign 21V00M000 · Reported 2021-12-28 · Hyundai Motor America

medium How serious is it? About this label

This does not affect how the car drives, but it makes injuries more likely if you are in a crash, so schedule the free fix; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

When these Hyundais were built, the windshield may not have been glued to the body properly. The glass is supposed to stay bonded in place, including during a crash. If the bond is weak, the windshield can come loose and fall out in a collision, so people inside are more likely to be hurt. The dealer will remove the front windshield and reinstall it properly, at no cost to you.
