It raises the risk of injury to a front-seat passenger in a crash where the airbag deploys; the notice does not say to stop driving, but keep the passenger seat slid back until it is fixed.

What's wrong, in plain English

The front passenger seat has a limiter that is supposed to stop the seat from sliding too far forward. On these cars, that limiter can let the seat end up closer to the dashboard airbag than it should be. If the car crashes hard enough for the passenger airbag to go off, someone sitting that far forward can be hurt by the airbag as it inflates. A dealer will adjust the seat limiter so the seat stops at a safe distance.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see if your car is included. 2. Call your Mercedes-Benz dealer or MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 (recall number 2021040002) to book an appointment. 3. Have the passenger seat limiter recalibrated — it is free of charge.

Safety risk
A seat too close to the air bag increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the frontal passenger air bag.
Remedy
MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will recalibrate the passenger seat limiter, free of charge. The recall began April 29, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2021040002.
