Tesla Model 3 and Y brake caliper bolts may loosen

NHTSA campaign 21V387000 · Reported 2021-05-25 · Tesla, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — a tire can lose pressure with little warning while you are driving; the notice does not tell you to park the car, but get it inspected quickly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The brake caliper is the clamp that squeezes the brake pads against the disc to slow each wheel. On these cars the bolts holding a caliper in place may be loose. If a caliper comes free it can rub against the wheel rim and let the tire lose air. A tire losing pressure while you drive raises the risk of a crash. Tesla will check the bolts and tighten or replace them free of charge.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to see whether your car is covered.
2. Contact Tesla at tesla.com/support/contact or 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall SB-21-33-002.
3. Have Tesla Service inspect and tighten or replace the caliper bolts at no cost.
