Moderate: steering still works but takes much more effort, especially at low speed, which the notice says raises the risk of a crash — make sure your car has taken the update.

What's wrong, in plain English

A small circuit board that runs the power steering can be pushed past its limits and quit. When it does, the power help that makes the wheel easy to turn goes away. You would notice it most when you come to a stop and then start moving again, and at low speeds, where the wheel gets much heavier to turn. Tesla fixes this with a free software update sent to the car over the air.

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is included. 2. Connect to Wi-Fi and install any pending software update on the car's screen. 3. If the update will not install, call Tesla at 1-877-798-3752 and ask about SB-25-00-004 — it is free.

Summary
Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles operating software prior to 2023.38.4. The printed circuit board for the electronic power steering assist may experience an overstress condition, causing a loss of power steering assist when the vehicle reaches a stop and then accelerates again.
Safety risk
A loss of power steering assist can require greater steering effort, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 25, 2025. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-25-00-004. (over-the-air software update)
