Tesla Model 3 and Y seat belts poorly attached

NHTSA campaign 21V389000 · Reported 2021-05-25 · Tesla, Inc.

high How serious is it? About this label

Serious — your seat belt is your main protection in a crash and may not work as designed; the notice does not say to stop driving, but have it inspected promptly.

What's wrong, in plain English

The shoulder part of the front seat belt bolts to the pillar between the front and rear doors. On some cars one or both of those bolts may not have been fastened properly at the factory. A bolt that is not properly attached means the belt may not hold you the way it is designed to in a crash, so you could be hurt worse than you otherwise would be. Tesla will inspect both fasteners and fix them at no cost.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your car is included.
2. Contact Tesla at tesla.com/support/contact or 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall SB-21-20-001.
3. Book a Tesla Service inspection of both front seat belt fasteners — free of charge.
