Buick Encore GX and Chevrolet Trailblazer Jack Can Break

NHTSA campaign 21V440000 · Reported 2021-06-10 · General Motors, LLC

medium How serious is it? About this label

A fractured jack can cause the vehicle to collapse, increasing the risk of injury. The notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

These vehicles came with an emergency jack, the small tool you use to lift the vehicle when you change a flat tire. If the jack is not placed exactly where the owner's manual says it should go, it can crack and break while the vehicle is raised on it. The vehicle can then drop, which could injure anyone underneath or beside it. GM is replacing the jack for free, but parts were not ready when the first letters went out.

What you should do

1. Enter your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is part of campaign 21V440000.
2. Avoid using the emergency jack; call for roadside help if you get a flat before the jack is replaced.
3. Contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300 or Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 (GM recall number A212335470) to arrange the free replacement jack once parts are available.
