Kia Telluride Dashboard Screen May Stay Blank at Startup

NHTSA campaign 21V577000 · Reported 2021-07-28 · Kia Motors America

medium How serious is it? About this label

Moderate — the vehicle itself drives normally, but driving without a working speedometer or gear indicator is risky; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving.

What's wrong, in plain English

The screen in your instrument panel can come up blank when you start the vehicle. That screen shows your speed, which gear you are in, and your mileage. If it stays dark, you cannot see how fast you are going or check that the vehicle is in the gear you meant to select, which makes an accident more likely. Federal rules require that information to be visible. The dealer will reload the software for the instrument cluster.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your 2022 Telluride is affected. 2. Contact a Kia dealer for the instrument cluster software update, Kia recall number SC215. 3. The update is free. Kia customer service: 1-800-333-4542.
