A sudden loss of power in traffic or a vehicle rolling away can cause a crash or injury; the notice does not tell owners to stop driving, but always set the parking brake when you park until the repair is done.

What's wrong, in plain English

A part inside the left or right front driveshaft — the shaft that sends power from the engine to a front wheel — may not have been heat-treated correctly, so it can break. If it breaks while you are driving, the vehicle can suddenly lose power. A broken driveshaft can also let the vehicle roll away after you park if the parking brake is not set. A dealer will replace the affected front driveshaft at no cost.

What you should do

1. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls to confirm your vehicle is included in recall 21V939000.
2. Contact your Honda or Acura dealer, or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 (recalls BBY, NBW, OBX), to schedule the repair.
3. Have the dealer replace the front driveshaft as necessary — the repair is free.

Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2021 Acura RDX and 2022 CR-V Hybrid vehicles. A component in the right or left front driveshaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which could result in driveshaft failure.
Safety risk
Driveshaft failure can cause a sudden loss of drive power, or cause the vehicle to roll away when parked if the parking brake is not applied. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the right or left front driveshaft as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 24, 2022. Owners may contact Honda customer service 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are BBY, NBW, and OBX.
